What are some different types of health insurance plans?

Catastrophic health coverage is health insurance with a very high deductible, that does not have coverage for prescriptions. Dental insurance offers tooth care and treatment coverage only. Dental insurance alone is not considered essential health coverage under the Affordable Care Act. Accidental death and disability typically only covers in case of sudden loss of an eye, a limb, or accidental death. This is not generally considered health insurance under the Affordable Care Act. A Bronze health insurance plan has a high deductible, but lower monthly premiums. It generally has prescription coverage, and high copays. A Silver health insurance plan has a moderate deductible, and moderate monthly premiums. It generally has prescription coverage, and moderate copays. A Gold health insurance plan has a low deductible, and high monthly premiums. It generally has prescription coverage, and low copays. Medicare gap insurance plans are designed to cover situations that Medicare alone does not cover, and prescriptions. Some insurance plans are provided by Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). These usually cover treatment only by doctors and health care providers within the plan. Other insurance plans are provided by PPOs (Preferred Provider Organizations). They provide more coverage for doctors and health care providers within the plan, but also provide coverage to a lesser degree for doctors and providers outside the plan.
